Spare a thought for the selfless lovers
the people who let the girl go
watch the protagonists finally hook up
wear a smile, it's meant to be, they know
Spare a thought those in graceful defeat
The people whom ultimately wind up alone
They did the right thing, they didn't compete
They smile but how does it feel in their bones?

You see, in order for true love to conquer all
we let them break our hearts
As they rise we take the fall
Because nothing should keep them apart
We smile, but we're still alone in the dark

Spare a thought for those who didn't get the girl
Who watched the boy kiss the right one
Who smile and wish you the best in all the world
But don't imagine that our pain is gone.
Maybe they'll find someone else, to have and to hold
But alas that's never the story being told
Spare a thought for the selfless lovers
and the tears you never see
For every happily ever after
