Literature Text

I'm in possession of a hard to manage pain
An intolerable itch on a phantom limb
I was creatively eccentric, now I think I'm insane
Once thought I couldn't lose, now I'll never win
I feel broken, my soul hurts

I lack the drive and motivation, maybe I'm barely human
Not going to chase women or drink booze
Never going to smoke, never going to inject
Just a sad, boring fool
I feel broken, my soul hurts

I think back to how I was, wondering when I changed
What was the point where I stopped working
When did the happy child become me?
When did my soul stop being free?
What did I do, to hurt my soul?
The first two lines is a quote from my favourite Joker story; Lovers and Madmen. As of late I have been reminiscing and wondering what events were key in turning me into what I have become, or was I always going to be like this?

How did that song go? "I had a way, then losing it all on my own"? Yeah, that's coming to me right now. Lovely writing job, by the way. And yeah, I feel that the top two sentences would be something the Joker would say in a monologue of his.

This is definitely the monologue of a broken soul to me. Or, that's what I would say had I not saw the line "maybe I'm barely human". The last part definitely describes the lost transition from child to adult that we all go through as we get older. To finish it off: hopefully, you find your answers soon.
